'I miss that heavy forest;
moss on the north side of
fat trees, whose feet rest
in the creek, hugging stones
with their long toes.'
What a beautiful start to an endless poem, thoughts and emotions intact. Trees, especially the oak can tie up and capture human life by just being, standing proud, inviting the whats they can do and the memories they make, opening, generously and more.
'Six moons from today,
and for the five hundredth time,
she’ll birth her million acorns.
While I gasp for breath
at some smoky bar
in the city.'
Plus that is why the trees, whichever but especially the noble oak, live to be hundreds of years old.. even at their most decrepit they have wonder as a halo around and 'pon their canopy. By the by, moss is velvet to some growth, shows that extra touch of elegance..
Fine and near emotional - trees do what they should, they protect selves where and when can, don't battle but bend in the weather... ask Man to do that and he fights the world!

When I was in high school, I cut class a lot... there I was in the Florida jungle depicted in those old Johnny Weissmuller Tarzan movies, the same spreading oaks he built that tree house in were my Never Never Land, I read whole libraries of books in their arms hanging out over our driveway. I would look down and watch my folks drive off to work in the morning, but stay there all day… Then I learned to find some of their souls in old roots and burls and twisted limbs, sculpted their faces out of that beautiful grain…
These days I write poetry…

It took six adults to ring it fingertip to fingertip and the bottom limbs were over two feet in diameter at the trunk then reached out probably sixty feet or more all around. I would walk out to where their weight pulled them almost to the ground, step up, and walk all the way in where I could sit with the birds. He was King!

And yet we still think we know it all! Our lives must pass in the outward breath to some things that will know and understand more than we ever will.
I wonder if they have even began pondering us yet, the whiny irritants that just keep replacing themselves in the hope that one day they (we) will matter.
