DAWN

DAWN

A Poem by Vol

Outside my groggy windows,

the new sun is an impresario

doing his tricks again. It is

going to be a good day.

He has turned the pre-dawn

rain that clings to the leaves

into a dark mere, ten feet away

and across the narrow valley.

It glistens.

He is an acrobat on the

impossibly long spider webs.

A silver shimmer runs

from a persimmon to that

shaggy cedar below, then

twenty feet up a tight-rope dance

from holly to elm! My eyes

open wide to see him everywhere.

Cankerous yellow detritus, and

flying sparks of life flash and burn

through shafts and dapples to splash

everything with gold, the real

Cirque De Soleil.

Without looking away, I reach for the

coffee I just made, and pour a sloppy

six ounces into the Navajo mug I bought

that time I got rained out in Flagstaff.

I’ll breathe deep now, and wait

while this one minute takes

its own sweet time to pass.

The sun is an acrobat....on a high wire of blue...and in the morning the speaker is an acrobat,
on a high wire of enjoying the morning, readying for the day and enjoying the cup of coffee.
Multi-tasking at its best. And the speaker hopes that one minute will take a long time to pass.

Such a vivid scene you paint with words, I could see it all but then again I believe I have seen it before. Nicely done.

What a wordsmith you are! I do so admire the way you write, your articulation for expression invigorates my muse to stop and linger here!

I’m surprised you didn’t get snowed out in Flagstaff. Maybe those spider webs stretched all the way to Williams or north to the south rim. I can almost smell the Ponderosa pine trees and the Folgers in your cup.
