GETTING THE BLUES

If God exists, He must be really, really BIG!

Just think… wait a minute, what is a thought?

And then, what if God has a thought? Are His

thoughts any different than mine? Well, that’s

not even a question because when the God we

know has a thought, stuff happens, I mean

really, really BIG stuff happens, like whole

universes that work better than clocks! So that’s

the difference, His thoughts have substance, mine

don’t even make sense half the time, no matter

how much I like them, ALL of them, whether

cosmologic, or God, or creation and life itself, 

or when Sylvia walks by to tempt my, um, err, 

imagination, and she smiles because she knows 

exactly what I’m thinking.

CONSCIOUSNESS

Some of the physicists say it’s probably true...

in the quantum as it is in the macro,

on Earth as it is in Heaven,

And when it comes right down to it, what exactly are

ideas, emotions, intuitions, insights? Surely they are

more than chemicals looking for receptacles.

Proving their existence is no different than proving

the existence all things spiritual THINGS sans

atoms, muons and quarks. For all I know, everything

that ever was, is, or will be is nothing more than

Douglas Adam’s “hyper intelligent shade of blue,”

floating around the walls of what I like to think of as my

“head.”

I've been back and forth on God for years. Does he really exist, I was taught in catholic school that he does. But then I look at the world and the tragedies that happen everyday. Does God think about those things before they happen? Is it man's free will? It's all confusing to me, but I like your take here.

I know nothing about Catholicism, but it has been my experience as a free Christian ( no affiliations)who has spent my life studying and thinking about The Bible and my own salvation, I find that ANYONE, who places ANYTHING between a believer's heart and direct communication with God either blindly accepts those teachings or becomes an atheist. What you are really doubting is the church, not God... because in your religion church and doctrine come first while God sits in the background taking notes and deciding who lives, who dies and what kind of pain they will be in. Personally, I'd rather feel all the pain and have my free will than be a puppet controlled by a capricious deity... I can just see it, The catholic God says, "Hey guys, watch how many I let die in this car wreck!" My God says "The universe is in motion, watch how perfectly it flows!" What happens here is nothing more than the laws He set in motion in perfect operation. I think there is nothing more important than what God wants from me... What does He want? He wants it ALL, my heart, my mind, my soul, and my spirit. How do I give him that? (It is so easy) Jesus himself said all we have to do to enter the kingdom is repent, which means quit doing harmful stuff, Love God and Love your neighbor... That's it... The Church in all it's incarnations has blown it from the beginning, and there will be literal hell to pay for their perversion. Somebody asked Jesus, Dude, what are you doing here? And Jesus answered “I came to give you live, and that more abundantly,” I don’t find any fingers pointing in His gospel, I don’t see any shame in His gospel. Just love and a desire to commune with his creation. How you work out your own salvation(with fear and trembling that you might get it wrong) is something faced by everyone… But there is NOTHING we do on Earth as important.

Vol, very thought-provoking. I’ve struggled with the God question for a very long time, when in nature I understand Him. However, when in church the struggle heats up. Perhaps I’ll borrow Einstein’s line “I believe in Spinoza’s God”

It has been my experience that people from different backgrounds have wildly differing concepts concerning the nature of the being we call God. What a Catholic believes is entirely different from what a Methodist or Baptist would say. If God IS the universe I can't imagine Him needing formalized ritualistic programs in church, Nor would He live with gold paved roads, feet propped up on an ottoman, sipping lemonade while taking "gotcha " notes" so he can custimize your time in hell. I mean, no wonder there are so many atheists! I think of God as my closest realtive and friend, ALWAYS at my side, ALWAYS listening to my feelings, my thoughts, my well-being. I talk to him all the time. I can do that, because the God of the Universe not only KNOWS everything, He is AWARE of everything all the time... including all conscious beings because our consciousness is a display of His consciousness... Anyway It is a genuine trip to google "Consciousness" what it is, where it comes from, and what it means. Be careful though, it is a rabbit hole with many slipperey slopes...
