It's Never Too Late to Think Like an Idiot

It's Never Too Late to Think Like an Idiot

A Poem by W. Barrett Munn

***
We are the champions
at convincing ourselves
that what we feel
is also real --- provided we
haven't hardened our hearts.
Hardening of hearts
requires the Old Testament
or butter. I'm low on both types
of hardening material.

I'll have to go to the grocer's
or the bookstore, but prices
are so high it will require
a third mortgage. Things are awful ---
and I know why. I feel it deep
in my bones. The blame for everything
wrong with the world right now
falls squarely in the lap
of that black guy who used to be president.
