I Got Back Up

About dealing with my chronic pain

I choked on my breath

As the pain started breaking

Numbing my mind

Locking my body

I choked back the tears

As I suffered in silence

Quietly suppressing

The need to scream

I shared a smile

To hide my pain

To keep them from feeling

My despair

I got back up

Not ready to give in

I've learned to be strong

Now that's who I am
