A Poem by willweb

I found a part of us today

in an old shoebox

shoved in a dusty corner

of the closet we once shared

A bright blue envelope

with your handwriting

It was a letter telling me

how much you loved me

I didn't read it,

I knew what it said

and because I never

wanted to think about it again

Why am I writing about it?

So I will know where it is

the next time I find I am close

to forgetting you

I'm a sucker for both nostalgia and love stories. This reminds me of a letter...a letter, I have stashed away with my mother's advice about marriage. A Letter, to be read every year on my anniversary. A marriage that ceases to exist; both parties have moved on. A mother long ago deceased. Memories that both hold me and haunt me. Once again today you bring the light of another kind. Warming nostalgia, ty!

I like to start at the beginning....its a journey...:P
:(
Not sure whether to cry or smile. Cry because this IS a sad poem.. or smile because you don't want to forget the person who wrote the letter.

Thank you very much Einstein Noodle for your comments. I am happy you likied this poem.
A thought-full and emotional piece. The third stanza lines 3 and 4 are weaker than the rest.

Thank you Chris for your advice and comments.
This is relatable Will.... Sometimes we just can't let that person go, no matter how much we want to. If we can't be with them, we keep something - in this case a letter - that will remind us of all the good times we shared.

Lovely.

Thank you again Noodlehead. I am happy you liked this one.
this is really strong, Will...

i like the idea of keeping the letter close by...it is as if the speaker wants to forget the other person, but just can't...
and some part of the speaker doesn't want to.
sometimes as poets, we thrive on pain...and many relationships keep their place on the shelf that is our mind...gathering dust, but still there nonetheless.
