Supper club confessions

Supper club confessions

A Poem by willweb

Before me rests
dirty linens in folded seams
seeking someone to pay the bill,
as I am questioned,
who are you?

Table settings in disarray
scatter my thoughts
in creme brulee stains
and lemondrop martinis wasted
as I look up

Falling to the ceiling
I find my world upside down,
drifting in twisted chiffon
corned by chandelier earrings,
feeling this beauty engulf me

Floating within lost dreams,
undeterred by the din of the dinner crowd
slowly exiting with full bellies,
memories keep me aloft
as what was once down is no more

Gazing below to the rows
of leftover dishes and sorrowed silverware
I now know the answer to the question,
Who are you?
I am nothing without you

any time food finds it way into an allegory or metaphor, is a great thing. dining is a part of my life, i can feel every inch of this writing. I think it means different things to me than to other, but that is the delight in writing. Good stuff!

Thank you Streamline. I suppose I was hungry when I wrote this.
i agree with Chris...this is so different..

without you i am just one of the crowed at the restaurant...
with you? the meal is really special...and there is no "sorrowed silverware"

and the leftovers are delicious to consume later...but here there are just leftover dishes because you weren't here to take your place setting.

nicely done
