Strong enough?

Strong enough?

A Poem by willweb

Brick by fired brick,

I build this wall around my heart

A fortress of stone and mortar,

mixed with second chances,

fortified by fading desires

Strong enough to hold back the pain,

seal the existing cracks,

reinforce the foundation,

and plug the leakage

once pooling in my chest

Still you find your way back in

and I couldn’t be happier -

Oftentimes, that strong wall is not as strong as we seem to think it is. We can turn our hearts into tough, resilient rocks that stand on a rugged shore, but someday when the tide is high, a seemingly harmless drop of moisture would trickle in and find our vulnerable center. Floods, tornadoes--we can deal with anything but that tiny little drop can break us into two with its constant contractions and expansions.................just trying to write a review worthy of the King of Metaphors. ;)
