A day in my life

Did you ever have a song invade your sleep?

Woke up, fell out of bed

Huh, what?

 

dragged a comb across my head

Wait, (stretch) I don't use a comb

 

Found my way downstairs and drank a cup

Downstairs? I live in a (yawn) single story

 

and looking up I noticed I was late

Late? It's 4:30 in the morning

 

Found my coat and grabbed my hat

Coat and hat? It's too hot for a coat and hat

 

Made the bus in seconds flat

Bus? I drive a (yawn) pickup truck to work

 

Made my way upstairs and had a smoke

I don't smoke!

 

And someone spoke and I went into a dream

Ahhhhhh, it's my alarm clock radio, sheesh

Okay, I am up (yawn)

 

Now where did I put that comb?

Made me smile.
I wrote a similar piece a few years back incorporating my words into " It's a long way to Tipperary" a poem about lads in trenches in the Great war of 1914-1918

I remember well the song as well as the feeling. Too many days of getting up to work. Clever idea the pairing of the lines and subsequent thoughts. By the way did you ever find the comb you don't use?
