and I could not look away

and I could not look away

A Poem by willweb

and I could not look away

I stared into the shadows

of a lover’s distant past

Heard whispers in the darkness

of the spell her heart did cast

As it raked across my feelings

and I cried out in the night

When this smile I was wearing

fit a little bit too tight

With her painted nails of crimson

like the color of my blood

She clawed at my emotions

as the silhouettes did flood

This morning found believing

that our time is filled with fate

Where I find my voice is screaming,

please don’t tell me it’s too late

She collected every promise

on the worries I did call

For she wanted me to know that

I could never have it all

Still I crawled into the silence

with my eyes so open wide

And together we were drowning

in the motion of the tide

In her arms now spun the seconds

of the minutes I could spare

Like a clock that’s steady ticking

darkened rhythms sent to share

Drinking thirsty from the fountain

as her finger it did press

On the chrome implanted wishes

of an early moon confess

For her smile was infectious

as it hid her dirty deeds

When I fell intoxicated

still to stagger in these needs

Tried to gaze off in the distance

but my vision would not stay

I was trapped in her seduction...

and I could not look away

Thanks so very much dear poet
Those seductive females, where would we be without them? Probably extinct as a species. It all started in the garden of Eden I think when Eve gave Adam that apple. Adam blamed Eve, Eve blamed the snake and the snake didn't have a leg to stand on. ;) Well, just chalk it all up to experience, whatever the experience may be. I enjoyed the read. F.

There is a move in play, feeling but not looking away. Feelings urgent masking thoughts, feelings fragile, cowering, wondering. Your words sway this way and that, willweb, Knowing little or nothing about someone seems to offer a clean slate, be open and telling all hopes for trust and understanding. Seems whichever you're flying high and drowning same time. Love is what we make it, perhaps, rather than letting it be.. perhaps! You're another poet who opens a door a little then, leaves the reviewer to ponder and think and wonder and.. .. . !

Femme Fatale is the archetype that comes to mind. Too many of these around. Be careful Will You will end up with a black widow.

I am being as careful as I can. Thanks my friend.
I feel the frustration that you perceive in your past relationship with this woman.... she gives and then divests...she could not give you the time or the amount of passion you so desired...." you could never have it all".... and that sums her up...nevertheless you were "trapped in her seduction" but she raked at your emotions....sometimes you just can't win, no matter how much you try....
great writing will ( as always)

Those pesky vixens do have a way about them, don't they? I hope none of them read my review, but I reckon they could get guys to do just about anything they wanted them to. Isn't that a scary thought? Luckily most ladies are lovely, sweet and innocent and it would never cross their minds to play with the contents of our meagre manbrains and jumble them all up until we don't know if we're pointing north or giraffe! 😊
Sorry, I got distracted there, by a ladies in and out bits as she passed.

***Not part of the review, but site has been going wonky again and won't let me post or even change the "what's on your mind" bit.
I'll keep reviewing if it let's me and hope it all sorts itself out soon.

A trap indeed.
The poem held me as well. A seduction to the mind with meter and rhyme.

Thank you for sharing your talents.

Thanks Scott, I am happy you liked this and appreciate your visit.
the smile fit a little too tight....trying to save face but knowing we will not be the one...seduced and rejected at the same time....or finding out we are not the only one...there have been so many others and we are just part of a pattern.

Thanks so much Jacob. Exactly...it happens. I am happy you liked this one.
I really, really like this. It has a refined tone, and it has a nice fluidity to it as well.
