Each tiny island

Snow hits the ground

with the temperature falling

Slick city streets reflect

boots they have seen

 

Icicles form

on a frigid veranda

Dripping like faucets

somewhere in between

 

Go to a window

with curtains of satin

Pull up the sash

so that winter can see

 

Each tiny island

your mind tends to visit

When it is cold

where your feet seem to be

Really like this. My tiny island is going to be Thailand towards the end of Feb to celebrate a friends 60th, should be 20+ of us going to have fun.

Great line! ...I feel a twinge of guilt, saying I love looking out my windows at snow-covered boughs, considering all the folks who've suffered our storm of the century, especially when I'm at my keyboard. It's a cozy feeling, when writing isn't a habit, it's a "tiny island" of joy.

No guilt necessary, I feel bad for those people as well but, they are the ones who chose to live in that part of the country. Just like down here when it is 110f for weeks at a time...I am the one who chose to live here. So go ahead and gaze at the beautiful scenery and type away my friend. I'm just going to take a little mind vacation to Jamaica. : )

I'm thinking fondly of San Diego, and missing it like crazy. I've been so cold and so sick, that I keep waiting for the transition to take place, like everyone keeps telling me it will. No snow yet, but snow flurries did make an appearance the day before Christmas Eve, as did the single digits, figid temps and frozen pipes. There was no water Christmas day!!) So tell me, Will...where do you long to be?

Well, let me start by saying that the Friday before Christmas, here in balmy South Texas it was 16 degrees and as well, I had no water that day due to frozen pipes, so it can happen anywhere. But where I long to be, there is a resort in Negril, Jamaica that I am very fond of and if I could be anywhere right now, I believe that would be it.

I was in Jamaica long long ago for a company sales convention, loved it!!! ...Here in Vancouver I think we hit a low of something like -12 celsius, which googles to 10 fahrenheit

yep, I can imagine it gets pretty damn cold in Vancouver.

...actually we have the mildest climate in Canada,
this winter is a rarity, the first I guess, of many storms-of-the-century to come. A rare rarity in Texas too, I'm sure :)

Now that is something I did not know. Thanks for sharing that. I have heard it is beautiful there.
yes, definitely not the norm down here though two years ago we got hit with a storm that brought 5 degree F temps four almost a week and a foot of snow. That was crazy. We did have some fun in the snow but no water and no power for that long wasn't my idea of a fun time.
