Samcastles

Samcastles

A Poem by willweb

~

I watched her on the beach

filling her little yellow bucket

with sand and then turning it over

She had the biggest smile on her face

as she looked at the form it left and

then said, "Look daddy, I made

a samcastle!"

"Yeah, that's nice" he replied

totally uninterested,

never glancing up from

his phone the entire time

Her smile quickly faded as she

looked over towards me

I gave her a big thumbs up and

her smile returned

Parents, pay attention to your kids because there might come a time when you want/need them to pay attention to you

My new favourite word Will. It makes me wanna go to the beach and build one, and trust me, that is not in my nature.
Beaches are completely foreign to me. It may be that living in Scotland I have grown contemptuous of the idea of slethering myself in oil, only for the wind to blow and whump! I look like a donut covered in sand and oil! 😊
But you are right, people are too immersed in the wrong things these days, while your kids have a real memory that will remember that you couldn't even tear your eyes away from a screen to give your kid a little praise for her work.
That same memory may be in charge of picking your nursing home one day, so pay attention folks. 😊

So sad for that little girl. Bad Daddy. He will always have a phone but he won’t always gave his daughter. Too stupid to realize he is missing out and so is she. Some people don’t deserve to be parents. Thank goodness for your thumbs up will. Conveyed perfectly. Have a good Friday.

You haven at great imagination. Have a lovely day will.
Addiction to the internet and phones are becoming a big problem. A child needs attention and love. How can a parent choose a phone over the love of a child? And yet, I'm sure it happens all the time.

This is a heart warming story. And yet sad too.

Thanks my friend, it really is sad. I am glad though that you enjoyed it. I appreciate your visit.
This is so true Will, kids always want their parent's attention... and why not...they are discovering new things every day...and then a time may come when you need your kids' attention....kids look to their parents for everything form the basics like food to ideas, directions, leadership....so yes
pay attention to this lovely little educational poem!

This made me smile! You gave that little girl the happiness her own father could not.

It reminds me of something I heard somewhere along the way years ago, This woman would always complain about her son. She would mop the floors, and he would come running through the back door, slamming it behind him, and tracking his muddy footprints across the floor. One day, the little boy died. The mother reminisced, remembered, and wished that she could have those muddy footprints upon her floor again. At the core, there is a sadness here; but you turned it into a happy ending. I think that's just your way.

Sounds as though the gent doesn't have his priorities in order. I believe he'll live to regret it.
