How Lacy WonA Story by Willys WatsonHow Lacy Won On a mild Saturday afternoon, the first weekend after school was over for the Summer, Lacy and four of her neighborhood friends were waiting to Johnny, who was sitting on the front porch, to start a new Hide And Seek game. At their age, pre-teen, their games, which varied, were more about long time neighborhood companionship. “The rules are the same. You can’t go beyond the house of either side of our house to find a place to hide, or the two across the street. And the people living there have to know you’re playing a game. So, I’m going to close my eyes and count to fifty while you find a place to hide. And the last one to get caught wins. And once you catch someone else you get to re-hide.” As soon as he started counting they took off to find the best place to hide. Within less that a half hour everyone, but Lacy, had been found. And after they waited for her another fifteen minutes, Sally suggested they go talk to Mrs. and Mr. Carson, Lacy’s parents, to ask it they knew where she was. When Mrs. Carson opened the door they asked her where Lacy was and she told them Lacy was on their back porch waiting for them, them lead then to their back porch where Lacy was sitting on the floor, leaning against the wall, while reading a novel. ‘Sorry about that, you guys, but I figured you wouldn’t expect to look for me back here while sitting on the floor and reading a book. Not the day after school was out for the Summer,” Lacy teased them. “I sort of looked quickly, like behind all those big trees in the back yard, but didn’t look at the back wall of the porch, cause I didn’t want to get caught,” Jeff admitted.
