Screened InA Poem by WordKnurdI decided to try my hand at a Haibun (a descriptive paragraph followed by a Haiku) because... well, why the hell not. There is a constant siege -an
external pressure- on the part of the flies trying to get in. There are of course a few week spots: Holes
in metal screens where ten steaming summers’ worth of wayward baseballs and
curious possums have broken their way through.
Then there is the door.
It screeches its way open with the voice of a spring with has felt too many
frosts and too little unction. Its final
word is the slam of soft, mossy wood on an aluminum frame and it is punctuated
by the smell of dogwood flowers and sassafras mingling with motor oil and
spirits. Flies have many eyes. Can they tell secrets?
