Christmas in trenches

Christmas in trenches

A Poem by Lt. Norman

As the great war approached December

many of the soldiers happen to remember

that before the war a peaceful holiday existed

and they went over the edge to risk it.

At some places their enemy remembered too

they went from the trench, without guns they moved

they met up half way in no man's land

they sang carols and presents were sent.

However sadly and to a great shame

not at all parts of front was forgotten the blame.

Where ones went from the trench with a white flag in hand

they were gunned down, died where they stand.

Not everyone was willing to accept

the holidays of peace while fighting a war

So to everyone who on Christmas eve lay dead

May your souls find peace, and suffer never more.
