Pull Back the Hammer

One day, he finally hit his breaking point.

He loaded the bullet into the chamber. Click. He pulled back the hammer.

The bullies got to him for the final time. He had no friends. No one stood up for him. The teachers called him “a waste of space”.

His stepfather was done beating him. His mother was too busy drinking to see his scars. His father left when he was a baby, a Smith & Wesson revolver was the only trace of his existence.

He had no future. Knew it. So why wait until he was an old man?

He loaded the bullet into the chamber. Click. He pulled back the hammer.

This poem brought tears to my eyes. I have lost a few family members to suicide. You put guilt on yourself thinking it was you that caused them to chose a fatal way out. This is very well penned. Thanks, for sharing. Eva
