"BITE ME"A Poem by TraceBe careful what you say"Bite Me" There was an old farmer Who had an old dog, A mule, some chickens and a cow Day in and day out He worked that old mule As he and the dog followed the
plow He would start the day By milking the cow And gathering all the eggs he
could get He cared for his animals And he talked to each one The old farmer considered them all
pets Then out to the barn For daylight was burnin He would feed the ornery old Jack Take him out of his stall Hook him up to the plow And holler as the whip he would
crack For years and years He worked the fields The farmer kept plowing his land Then one real hot day The mule stopped in his tracks Turned around and took a stand “Bite me” old man I’m as tired as you It’s time we put this old plow
away Now take off this harness Unhook the plow And let me go out and play The old farmer dropped The reins and the plow And ran away fast as a cat on fire The old dog at his side With his tale t’ween his legs If he told anyone they would call
him a liar From a distance he stood shaking And spoke under his breath “Can you believe words just came
out of that mule” The old dog looked up And to the farmer's surprise Said: “Yeh, Scared the hell out of me too” Now the plow sits still, The animals play all day And the farmer has nothing to do But collect entrance fees From the crowds gathered round Hoping to hear ol’ Jack talk to
them too. © 2026 Trace |
