First Kiss of Love

First Kiss of Love

A Poem by Trace
"

I've added a few more verses of my own to a short poem by Lord Byron

"
First Kiss of Love

Away with your fictions of flimsy romance
Those tissues of falsehood which folly has wove
Give me the mild beam of the soul-breathing glance
Or the rapture which dwells on the first kiss of love

Thus allow no distress to bind your heart
Least your soul be burdened with doubt
For before you I stand with no device to depart
But your joy tis that of which I am about

Then come now my dearest, my honor I give
My hand, my heart thus offered in troth
For thee I promise, I pledge the very life I live
Tis but a wish for my precious, on the first kiss of love.

First verse by Lord Byron
second and third inspired by the first

A beautifully crafted poem that blends classic romantic style with sincere emotion. The imagery feels timeless.
