THE SOUND OF A BROKEN HEART

 

Did you ever hear a heart break?
It's not as loud as you might think

It breaks ever so silently

Your mind begins to shrink

no one will hear

It's just a soft "crash"

Right behind your ears

The sound will make your head spin
and tare you deep within

when you hear it, you'll know

You’ll feel it from head to toe
The pain will take your breath away

This may sound so cliché

But the shards of red will cut you

Your soul will begin to bleed

And no one will ever give you

The comfort you really need

it's unfair

How the one who broke your heart

will never hear

The sound of something

They once held so dear

the pieces will fall to the ground,

Crushed ever so lightly

Without a simple sound

they will never know
The things that they’ve done
the nightmares that they’ve caused
the misery that you face

Or the coup sin grace

 

You try to fight the tears

As you begin to suffer

To be honest, I suspect that some reviewers place too much importance on the structure of a poem. This is a pretty good piece of writing. It seems to have a clear message, one which genuinely means something to the writer. I really liked her choice of words too. Whilst reading it, I could almost feel the anguish of a broken heart.

It is a lovely poem, but my dislikes for love and rhyme throw me into the con-section of the majority. But to be fair and not of my awful opinion, it is nicely written. Omit or change the last three lines, they seem to fall flat compared to the rest of the poem, not a really nice finisher.
