Love/Hate Relationship

Love is as very strong word,

But then again, so is Hate

"You can't have one without the other", they say, 

"Its rarely worth the wait".

3 years, 12 weeks and one guy later

I finally understand;

If you choose to let them in,

They'll have the upper hand.

A single glance was all it took - 

You had me from the start.

I knew I loved you desperately,

But you tore me apart.

You gave me flowers, hopes, and dreams

But you bruised more than a lip.

Oh, how I regret falling for

This Love/Hate relationship...

Author's Note

So I don't tend to use rhyme schemes in my writing, mainly because I prefer writing freely, just as the words fall out of my mind, rather than rearranging them, but I thought id try this to see whether or not it was preferred by other people reading my writing, please let me know what you think!!

Loved it. The rhymes made your point hit harder. One thing not clear: "Its rarely worth the wait" -- what did you mean by this in the context of the first stanza? Your poem perfectly described something I experienced. Good job.

The line is supposed to mean that you wait for a relationship and the supposed right person, and then you realise that it's not as good as your the way you picture the relationship to be; it leaves you disappointed. Thank you very much!

I see. That clarifies things. It doesn't seem to relate though to the rest of the stanza, which was talking about how, in a relationship, there are bouts of love and hate.

Why not something like...

Love is a very strong word,
