Humans need a Hereafter

Life would be
quite worthless and short
If this is
the only dear life we have
Great plans just death can abort
to be useless
once you met your grave.

And for those who die young,
in childhood's tender ages
How short
and incomplete life would be
How unfair and unlucky
if death's the end for them
Besides life to the fullest
is eternity.

What about those born and die poor
or those born deaf, blind or lame
What if they were so doomed
without any cure
How unlucky if resurrection never came!

But a
belief that
there's a
life after this
could be
of great
consolation and solace
especially
to the
poor
handicapped,
the
shortlived
that they
could
make it up
under heaven's grace!

For the
good one
who is born blind,
In heaven
shall he in
brighter vision see
And the
goodly
one yet
who
has lost his mind
will in the
afterlife
be as sane as could be.

The deaf
man with
his balance
of pious
acts
Only the
hereafter
would
compensate
what he
lacks
And that
godly one
born poor
and who dies poor
could be
of the
richest at heaven's door.

In this life
those
who've
been
saintly yet
unable to talk
could
cheer up
to believe
what
heaven
has in stock
For this
world can
be misery,
Heaven's
the place to rock
In this
world at
times
you've
to let the hawk gawk
Knowing
your
tormentor
in
heaven
shall ye mock
Thus for a
true
happy
ever
after
for an
abode of mirth and laughter
Work
towards thy hereafter
A divine
place
devoid of disaster!

O' God therefore after my death and demise
Do place me in a peaceful palatial paradise.

beauty is everywhere if we just open ourselves up to it be you blind, deaf, mute, rich or poor happiness is not a formula or a set of circumstances it is a state of being:) heaven is in the now I used to work with the disabled and mentally retarded some of those folks put me to shame about my own senses of disparity I learned a lot from those guys over the years:) what an uplifting message you penned but I must say that many doors to heaven are sitting upon the earthly bounds

You are so right , philosophically happiness is a state of being yes wow. Yes we can try to feel heaven in the now with positivity. It's great to know that mentally ill can teach us things... I actually have a poem in my journals I wrote high shows that the handicapped appreciate things more and better sometimes . Your comment inspired me to post it as my next so plz do read it when I do.

I agree with your overall message, that death is not the black hole that some people think of it as. I believe there can be lots of exciting things that happen after we cease to exist in the flesh. The thing I highly disagree with, as far as your message goes -- you make it sound like life isn't worth living if you are poor or disabled (I am poor AND disabled) . . . and that we must die before life becomes worth living. A very sad & disturbing premise. I believe people who have disabilities are often living much better lives than those who seemingly have "everything" in life. I actually feel a strong dislike toward this way of putting people down & categorizing whether certain kinds of lives are worth living. Sorry not to be able to celebrate what you're saying here! Gosh friend but you are the only one who seems to have misunderstood and mistranslated my poem as you can see via other comments. There's no way I'm putting anyone down here. I'm uplifting them actually to show them that they can live this life but it's not the end, they can have whatever they lacked in this life , in the afterlife. Sure all handicapped would like such restoration say of eyesight , lost limbs etc even if they can live a life without it now, but this poem is to give them hope and need of hope for the future eternal life. Nobody's asking anyone to die here, you read my poem against suicide I hope. I'm soo happy to hear that you can live a happy life with a handicap, that's what I would alwYs encourage, if you ink me at all. I'm all for positivity and pro life.
I believe we will be raised in flesh to enjoy eternal bliss if we deserve it and believe in it.
I'm poor as well yet I'm very contented yet I wouldn't mind some luxury in the hereafter.
So take care and pls don't judge and jump to assumptions that make me feel sad .

i am a free verse guy and this format of short and one word lines does work ..that being said...for me..this one is a bit too strung out .. i can't find the rhythm of it and when i do it is quickly lost .. would love to see some of the thoughts expressed in longer lines ... the theme is crystal clear ... deep and long held spiritual truths across religious differences ... reap what we sow ... the low lifted up .. the lifted up brought low .. we suffer many maladies as human beings .. the worst of which are pride, greed and selfishness .. i especially like that you are lifting up those with one disability or another ..as it is after all what is in the heart and mind that counts ... strong closing couplet! to which is say Amen! ;)

I guess what is liked in my poetry is different and subjective for every poet. There are poets who have criticised me for my lines being too long lol. So your ticking off the short lines made me sigh.
Anyway I'm glad you saw how the theme cuts across many religions. Yes pride n greed n there r many evils ah all bad for all.
I feel for the disabled yes, I'm sure everyone with a heart must right.

I guess I would agree with E a bit here. A line of one word makes it difficult to read. I realize suggestions are not the norm on this site . . . but this is a small matter of form. I also like punctuation even though it is popular in contemporary poetry. But to each his own.

the poor die the richest if they have self-content and friends...
actually the beat of this works for me...the brevity of the lines paralleling the shortness of life...
no matter who we are...we never know how long our existence will be, so we must live each day to the fullest.

Yeah I believe we can live life to the fullest if we get a long life and we can still believe in the hereafter. And friend both rich and poor die, many rich die young too.
