a birthday poem for a friend.

electric stems

spark in the dark

and flash the news

to the rising dawn--

while blushing petals

moist with morning dew,

lay open to the sky above

releasing to the wind,

in a burst of nectar's scent,

this mornings message--

and humming birds

hover in delight

over this splendid surprise

and echo to all around

the special news

of today--

and soon before noon,

while autumn winds

blow cool over the land,

all the earth comes to know

this day is Tracey's--

and sings to her

this birthday cheer!
