Love's Dark Disguise

You bring me joy,
But you know you haunt me.
Treat me like a toy,
But I know you want me.
Your hands are all red,
While my head is bleeding.
"It's love," you said,
And I was just believing.
You gave me the pain,
disguised in your love.
The smell of my blood stain,
Is what you adore.
You broke off my fingers,
Saying, "It's fun for a while."
You asked for my forgiveness,
After taking away my smile.
You hit me for not answering,
But I was just taking my breath.
My words were wavering,
But my soul was crying in depth.

Zoa, I hope this is an imagination and not reality for you. The horror is that for half of humanity, what your poem describes is a stark daily reality. How does someone "forgive" such savagery and brutality? I say this not as criticism of the victim, but that the rest of us who stand by and know this happens and yet do nothing to stop it. How can we live in a society and social system that promotes such brutality continue to exist and not do everything we can to create a new and different system and society where this and many other abuses never happens again?

Your poem is wonderfully written and much needed. Thank you, Zoa, for the courage and consciousness to write and post it.

Thank you so much for reviewing my poem.
It is not a reality for me but for many out there and if a poem can bring in even a tiny bit of awareness, I would write many more on it. At this point I don't seem to find any humanity left to dream about the place where no such abuse exist. However, the victims shall be aware of what it is and not name it "LOVE".

For some they diguise works for fun purposes and waste of precious time; for others it is pain and hurt that is hard to forget.

That's true actually. It's hard to even understand what they must be going through while the partner enjoys the entire situation.
