Mistress Of Sand

Mistress Of Sand

A Poem by Zoe Richardson
"

I was experimenting with a twist on Elizabethan poetry, and this is what I came up with.

"

Mistress of Sand

And yet I stay

And yet I stay

The sweet hush arrives

A blessing born of spring

And sweet grass

A halo of silver

From the summer stars

And yet I know

And yet I know

All peace is vanity

A hurried reprieve

From your shallow sins

And all that’s best

And all that’s dark

Rises in the pieces

Of your eyes

And yet I see

And yet I see

The betrayal of a thousand

Whispers stretching out

Into edges marked with

Salt and silence

You were king of all

Within your vision

Never knowing in the dark

You were blind
