Amazing Grace

I didn't ask for this life I lead
But then again, do I have a choice
The pain I've felt is unbelievably real
Silent up til now, never used my voice

He's got a foothold, no, that's my heart
His fingernails dig deep inside of me
Temptation holds a gun to my head
But I've got the bullet, the barrel's empty

Tears like blood slowly drip down my face
My knees buckle connecting with the dirt
This burden so heavy is crushing my soul
Amazing grace separates my face from the earth

My unbearable yoke is lifted with ease
Slowly to my feet, I rise up once again
Tears of joy flow down my cheeks
Somehow I've found the strength to stand

This is very dramatic and compelling. You create tension with every line, and the sharp delivery in which you interrupt yourself and thoughts seem to collide really enhances the poem. I like how the title sets the reader up with a different expectation and thus the poem is even more surprising, but then the last stanza gives the title more meaning. Great job!
