Is Romance Dead?

Is Romance Dead?

A Poem by Johnathan Smith

Is romance dead?
I question myself and beseech myself to ponder the question.

I have loved for so long,
only to see something so wrong.

I don't understand why we were given
this power for love,
this power for caring,
this power to show our inner side to someone,
only to have it returned without shipping.

Yes, I know it may sound crazy to ponder such a thing,
but having loved so long has blinded me,
having cared so long has left me weak,
having showed my inner side has left me open.

Was I the fool caught in the tempest of Aphrodite?
I think not for I have pondered love,
love is always pure,
love is always whole,
love is always sweet,
as long as you love you are truly living,
even if the love is not returned.
