A Plea to my Restless Eyes

A Plea to my Restless Eyes

A Poem by Emily Rose

These salt-encrusted days I drink silence as a liquid
flavored by flower-crumblings and too much time to think.
Hush, weary eyes, you will have your chance to breathe
when the laughter departs, but for now I will seal your hot brine
behind my words and his scent and my upturned mouth.
Just until the Laughter departs, my dear watery spheres,
stay true to your falseness until the door shuts.
Then, then, the deluge again.

Known as 'keeping a brave face', I think. If tears want to come, they will, they must, but take cheer - they are cathartic. The double use of 'Then, then', very emphatic. Clever,
John.

Nicely done. Short, compact, and powerful!

I love your words
"drinking silence"
"laughter departs"
it seems like it's about to hop a train and run away.
Nice write.
