Your words hurt

you said you'd changed

and I almost believed you

but all you did was paint over what you used to be

the old paint is still there

but there is also the new paint

I see you trying

but I can also see the old paint at times

but you're trying

you've almost changed

your words still hurt

but I guess it's best

to forgive...

and forget

Wow! Beautiful poem! I can visualize the heartbreak that inspired this piece of writing. Heartbreak its an awful thing really, but look at what brilliance it produced. Sometimes the worse things in our life, trigger amazing art work. I do believe in forgiveness, and not to hold a grudge. But, it seems like you were really hurt by this other individual. That they may have done whatever it is, many times and one can only let down their guard so many times. I just wanted to say, wonderfully written!
