Kelly's Dream

Kelly's Dream

A Poem by Rachel
"

This is a reacurring nightmare my friend Kelly has been having for about a year now.

"

A hall with windows
A fireplace's light
A door that's locked
And a midnight fright

It's soft as silk
This dress I wear
It shifts and flows
In my nightmare

I run to the window
The last to the right
It's cracked and open
In the dark of night

A candle light
I see ahead
A flame in the distance
Or is it all in my head?

Then from behind
My wrists are bound
I've been surrounded
The guards all frown

I kick and scream
I lose my shawl
I'm terrified
But I fight it all

I'm turned around
To face the door
A man walks out
Making no noise on the floor

My shoulder hurts
From the hit I took
All I notice are his black clothes
And the fact that he won't look

Pay attention
The guard's eyes say
But a distraction
Comes my way

I notice the window
From the corner of my eye
I know that Ben's crawled in
I couldn't ask him why

He sees what's going on
But he won't look me in the eye
He starts towards the door
Is he saving me or passing by

The guards have seen
They shout a phrase
The man sees Ben
A gun is raised

A shot is heard
Ben's leg drips blood
I scream so loud
My shoulder is hit with a 'thud'

The man turns back
Like he doesn't care
He's getting closer
He makes me scared

The guards stand tall
When he stops in front of me
His eyes are vacant
As far as I can see

From his mouth
These words are torn
"You're a terrible person!
That's how you were born!"

"You're going to pay
For the things you did."
I hang my head
If only I had hid

He calls to the guards
I can't understand
The words that he's saying
I can't comprehend

I'm dragged to the wall
Beside the fire alight
A chain hangs down
My left wrist is tied tight

The man is still yelling
I'm scared at the least
Ben moans in the corner
I'm becoming weak

The man calls out again
Another language I've guessed
I look for the second chain
The fireplace is it's nest

A guard grabs the fire chain
I realize what will happen
I try to move away
But I'm hit once again

It's black for a minute
Then I stumble forwards
I'm held to the spot
The guard starts coming towards

The white hot chain
Is wrapped around my right wrist
This burning pain
Gives my stomach a twist

My vision goes from dark to bright
My screams tear through the room
On this pitch black night

I can't stop this screaming
I can't stop this pain
I taste blood in my mouth
My heart beat is far from tame

A moment I can see the world
Silas' face is in the window
He creeps to Ben and picks him up
Then saves him from this hell hole

Silas turns around when he is done
And looks right in my eyes
He mouths an apology
Then crawls out the window and shuts it behind

My body goes limp and the guards lay me down
All I felt was the pain
I decide to give up as I close my eyes
There is nothing left here to gain

I'm starting to slip away
My last breath almost here
Then I gasp and sit up and bed
After that the only thing is
one single tear

A nightmare to tear out of a relationship? Lots of things going on. But a helpless nightmare, no less! Good start!

an enigmatic tale to say the least~ so many variables interplay between happenstance and character as you draw taut the feeling of her terror~ and then awakened from the nightmare with a residual tear~ thank you for sharing~
