Fleeting

Fleeting

A Poem by Ali Guerra

You are fleeting.
You are the raindrops
on the pavement after
a storm. You are snow,
in the Spring and ice-
particles in July after
a heatwave, a drought
You are twenty cents
in my jean pocket after
seven months, bleached
spots on my favorite
blouse, the head of a
half-smoked cigarette
on the porch you are
a burnt match, leaves
on our oldest Oak Tree
You are strands of hair
on a cancer patient,
and clouds are made of
dust anyway and they
disappear eventually,
much like you, drifting
endlessly like a balloon
filled with helium, I have
to let you go.

I really love this poem. The imagery is wonderful; such creative ideas of things that are fleeting. The cadence was right on. The only thing I would consider changing is the last line. This poem is such symbolism that it seems redundant to obviously state it. The feeling I got from reading it was already that this was a person you wanted to let go. I might even leave, "...filled with helium" as the last line. I really liked this poem, thank you for sharing! :)
