Those (ch.1)

Sitting alone in the dark room, shadows outlining the contents, candlelight flickering on the pages, I held in my screams. I couldn’t believe such horrors could happen – had happened – to people just like me. Unable to look at it anymore, I turned the page and stared at the words that stared right back at me. Those words would haunt me forever.

Looking back upon that day, I still don’t remember what came after that. All I can remember is staring at the words on the page. They were in back and white but all I saw was red. Deep, dark, blood red. For months I heard the screams in my head; so many screams, so many dead. I wanted to understand, to feel the pain, to know what they went through, to suffer the way they did. But no matter how hard I tried, I new I never would.
