for the little girl

for the little girl

A Poem by alexiamarie

I look, and look, and look,

but where have my desires gone to?

I knew so clearly when I was young.

oh to be that restless spirit again,

when she could conquer the world

and be whatever she pleased.

of the little girl who came to pass

she could hold herself on her own little knees,

and I, now I, cannot see below my nose,

I can't trust that I'm on a solid ground.

where's the future? where am I to go?

where should I be?

farewell to the little girl,

I must have let her down.

I think I owe her an apology.
