Two people in love reencounter after having been appart for ten years.

The reunion

He appeared again. He was ordering at the counter of the bakery-cafeteria where we had first met.

"Hello Angie," he said smiling at me, as if it had been twenty-four hours and not ten years since we'd last been there.

I shuddered. He and his smile (and his eyes, and his curls, and his voice, and... everything about him) continued to attract me as before.

"Hi Jaime," I finally managed to reply despite the lump in my throat.

"Tell me what you want to have and I'll order it for you. Do you have five minutes to sit down and talk a little?"

*The rest of my life, if you asked*, I thought, but I just said "Okay" and went to sit at a free table.

Two minutes later he came with two coffees and sat down facing me.

"You look even more beautiful since the last time we met... Five years ago?"

"Ten," I replied laconically.

"Yes, ten," he said in a very low voice with sadness in his eyes. "Let me guess. Now married and with a bunch of children."

"Widowed and alone, just like when we first met. But you knew that for sure before you made yourself found again. What about you?"

"Well, you know, I wandered around looking for my princess without realizing that she had always been here. Your wit hasn't diminished one bit, and neither has my lack of ability to make a pass at you. It's better to ask directly: Can we meet here daily for coffee until the end of the week so I may find the courage to invite you out next weekend?"

I didn't want to seem easy, but I couldn't stop myself from chuckling.

"Your charm hasn't diminished either," I told him in the most ironic tone I could pretend.

He also chuckled.

"So it's settled, same time tomorrow. I really have to go now."

"Why are you smiling like a fool?" my sister asked me when I walked back into our hairdressing salon.

"Because I'm a fool."
