breathless for so long

I've forgotten how to breathe

silly stories run in my head all with great endings that never leave

memories leak

and for a brief moment, the sun is much warmer than I seem to remember

time lags and I'm somewhere

before here.

laughing by the water's edge

we were certain the answers were ours

our secret was out in the open

and we knew it not

foot steps not followed have fallen 

doors, once open 

are less than ajar and wait for the turning key

images flash through the sun's heated rays

dew drops dare not quench any thirst

he walked up with swagger

she turned away, red- faced

suddenly twenty-three

the pictures were keepsakes

memories retraced ...

Is it wrong to use a cliche when used to advance the idea? Or should that part be understood?

Indeed-o-matic, my friend... how would they know, unless of course they had access to the writing in it's original language... who knows what languages, if any will be spoken two hundred years from now...

Yet another amazing read, certainly one that will certainly make any reader, stop and think. I have to say the ending in its on way sums it all up. Cherish our memories, life, love, all the little things we tend to take for granted, even ignore in some instances...always nice to have things to look back, reflect upon.

If you take the time appreciate and really notice the moments in your life with a humble and appreciative spirit, it's amazing how your perception will shift as you begin to train yourself to look for and remember the good in everything...

Is that what we do...make mediocre/good memories into great ones with full on Hollywood-esque lens refracted sun beams and make bad memories into horrible ones that should only be remembered on treated paper? Even though nothing ever fully developed.its not always easy to Carpe that Diem.

Your writing here is steeped in melancholy dear poet but I feel like a happy hippo in a mud bath as I wallow in it.

Thank you for your time and comments. Your most perceptive comments are exactly the reason for this poem. I was thinking the other day how some memories of events in our lives may have seemed inconsequential at the time, but in retrospect...we find that they were actual heart treasures...

Interesting, isn't it?

And for those other events and people that didn't work out, for whatever reason...their footsteps have fallen as they weren't followed...
