Daily Meal Plan

Daily Meal Plan

A Poem by Laz K.

A gulp of bitterness as I wake -

Black, no sugar, no cream.

The old mug, cracked an stained,

Breathes tired puffs of steam.

Feet shuffle, eyes dare not stare -

Merciless mirror, cold floor,

Thoughtless breaths of air.

Scoops of asphalt, gasoline in a bowl -

Breakfast cereal - fuming over the

Empty calories of the editorial.

Stomach turns, heart burns -

They’re feeding us moldy bread

That crawls with worms!

The fast food of the city fattens the

The prole, the grunt, the mook before

They end up angled like fish on a hook.

The meat grinder roars, we’re all

Gutted, chopped up, canned, and sold

To feed an invisible monster

Sitting on a mighty throne of gold.

And if you listen closely enough, you will hear Pink Floyd's welcome to the machine, as realisation finally dawns on us that we were never as free as the led us to believe.
Ultra processed foods become the norm, where we the consumers read the labels and shrug, thinking "what harm can one more chemical or additive do to us.
I always end that conclusion of a picture of the 3 eyed fish from the Simpson's playing in my head! 😃

Greed comes in many forms: food often secondary. Power radiates from Man's acidic core to turn love and ethics into arrogant, selfish nothings - then, turns on its heels and walks away - shrugging. 'an invisible monster .. '

Food is the seeming subject of this one, but I believe politics is the real meal plan. Some great "They" is feeding the people "moldy bread that crawls with worms." Also, a meat grinder is chopping up the people to feed "an invisible monster sitting on a throne of gold." Some ruling powers perpetuate themselves at the expense of the people they are supposed to serve. Power is a b***h.

Truth in these words. We can’t trust our food sources, the air we breathe and the water we drink. Fantastic piece of writing.

Laz K,
This makes the third excellent commentary on 21st century life in the West. I was just complaining that they spent billions to make us quit smoking, then poisoned our food... In our sterile, infertile world where everything is cracked like an old coffee mug, nothing is whole, nothing pure, least of all our thoughts.

What a sharp metaphor this is!
You remind me of Steppenwolf's song "Monster"---"there's a monster on the loose, it's got our heads in a noose...and it just sits there watching!"
Good stuff, Laz. And I, for one, am pretty sick of eating that moldy bread.
thanks for this...this WAS my breakfast this morning.

Fantastic.

Amazing.

Unfortunately, there seems to be a lot of truth,
in this...
at least, from what I can see.
Who are these Monsters??? I would say big corporations, would be one.

wonderful and horrid write.
