Elegy of Man

Elegy of Man

A Poem by Laz K.

Desert dunes shift in a

Slow dance with time.

On the ancient face of the land,

Caravans carve faint, fragile lines.

Here, silence guards her secrets,

Here, all is asleep, dreaming.

The fools flit about,

Building castles on sand,

While death glides on easy wings

Above the lowly and the grand.

Bones are the parchment on which

The elegy of man is written:

“Here lies man --
Highly ambitious,
Scarcely wise,
Blessed with endless passions,
Cursed with unseeing eyes.”

This has such a peaceful, almost dreamlike quality to it Laz and leaves me with a feeling that we should take care of the planet we live on, just as it has taken care of us.
Maybe if we didn't use its once abundant resources like they are there just for us and us alone, then maybe we would have a better planer than after what we have done to it for years, decades...

This paints a picture of the desert as calm and eternal, while people come and go, chasing dreams that don’t last.

Really excellent personification and it does seem that silence is a perfect guard for secrets...but if we listen closely enough to the silence, perhaps we can hear some of those secrets..sometimes quiet can be louder than screaming.
