Poetry of Time

Poetry of Time

A Poem by Alfred Kukitz
"

For Chris

"

We were in some old abandoned memory.

It must be centuries since this memory applied to living things.

How shall we search?

How shall we approach this find?

We looked beyond the obvious,

Trying to have the poem find us.

There in the cobwebs of time stood the elements of rhyme.

We shook the foundation of this old, old memory and

Found ourselves in the poetry of time.

I like this a lot, the two biggest reasons are the following: it demands us to examine memories as an idea and not the memory in and of itself; and it asks us where we find memories in ourselves. Good memories, bad memories, all stay lodged within us and the fascinating thing I've always thought about memories are that the good ones almost haunt us more than the bad ones. We look back and see what we had and knowing its in the past brings both salvation but also a sliver of remorse and no longer having that. Bad memories are finite, good memories are not.

I hope I didn't just create a bad memory of you commenting on a poem.

Well if you did I'll write a poem about it, you just enriched my resource. THANK YOU.
the more we search, the harder it becomes to find the words of life. it is better for us to make the best of those given to us. thanx
