Long Stare into Night

Long Stare into Night

A Poem by Alfred Kukitz
"

Looking at the blackness

"

Long Stare into Night

I stare into the long hours of the evening eyeing the darkness that unfolds before me.
I do not waste one moment in this stare because I sense the gloom and misery
that surrounds my mind flourishing into its own when the blackness becomes full pitch.
In some way I feel comforted visiting the unfortunate souls that compose this gloom.
My heart and soul long to touch them and offer a brief speck of care.
When that moment of empathy arrives and touches them my humanity rekindles itself
just as the longest piece of blackness surrounds us all.

Thanks Jacob! I couldn't agree more.

it's comforting to care for others, to reach out to them....and in the end what comes back to us is twofold...
blackness that is not scary, but soothing.
