So Innocence Could Prevail

So Innocence Could Prevail

A Poem by Alfred Kukitz
"

hmm, is that you

"
So Innocence Could Prevail

There were hoots and hollers
A sign of evidence as morning dew
snugly rested on his lapel.
He had been there
among lilacs, clear waters,
an enveloping sense that
fairies would soon arrive.

There was a smile in his gait
A humbleness in his stride
The kind of smile that enchanted the sky
He kneeled among the clovers,
greeted the new born fairies,
Inhaled the dreaded horrors
so innocence could prevail

Their was favor in him
He fostered many of children's days
Among his finest attributes was a courage
A courage deep in faithfulness
that went beyond the pale of all living things
He was my friend in the grand scheme of things
simply a new version of you and I.

Amy you are a writer I love to read and your encouragement lifts my heart into the realm of a tickled child.

Very intelligent and well constructed. There is a delicacy that I love which softens the powerful and universal theme.
This is fascinating:
"A courgae deep in faithfulness
that went beyond the pale of all livng things"
The idiom beyond the pale originated in the 18th century when the first pale to restrict jews was formed in Russia... here it is juxtaposed with great faith and all living things. Extraordinary.
There is a definite sense of the natural as well as the childlike which transforms the childlike into a broader innocence, like the innocence of Eden.
This is excellent.

puts a big smile on my face ..the sense of child-like innocence of someone so powerful he can inhale the horrors and foster new born fairies .. the Irish in me blossoms with gladness ;) your closing puts my feet just a touch on the ground ..very special he is a friend of the speaker ..and "just like you and me" is an admonition for me ..we can be better ..believe in goodness that children's fantasies blossom ..nice one says i!

"Inhaled the dreaded horrors so innocence could prevail" What a powerful line, Al. As I read this lovely poem, I envision a kind of elderly gentleman, wise in his years, and filled with light and love. He is with his grandchildren or other young souls, introducing them to the beauty of the world and shielding them from the horrors. He is a constant guardian of light and innocence. Beautiful.

When one catches a glimpse of the child, full of life, and innocence, inhaling the flowers, one can not help but believe somehow the world must be a better place for that child having touched it.

Thanks Lydia!

The dew on the lapel came to me first. The remainder came from the unconscious.

If there is anything on Earth of value it is innocence. I should know before Vietnam there was innocence.

Thank you S. Mi for your visit!

The concept of innocence prevailing is so fascinating. As though innocence itself must battle, thus losing that quality itself. What a world we have created. But then you give it a champion. Whimsical while still being powerful.

At first, I saw a veteran coming home and experiencing PTSD. Then I saw a loving father or grandfather trying to make the world a better place for his children and grandchildren. That's what we all hope for, isn't it? A peaceful world for new generations to enjoy. Courage....it is many things to many people, but we all need to have it. Al, your words are well chosen and so very descriptive. Lovely thoughts. Lydi**
