age 33

age 33

A Poem by Alfred Kukitz
"

time flies

"

age 33

i was at the corner of imagination and reason
when a joke in a 1934 coupe came tumbling by
he winked, raced the engine, flew into hyper drive
and was never seen for ages
perhaps he’d show on star trek?

i was of the age of playing the lines game in the pavement.
you know, can i miss all the lines in the pavement while i strutted to the store,
suddenly an inkling embraced me, whispered sweet nothings in my ear, before i knew it, i turned heading straight for imagination, the lines didn’t matter,
soon i discovered i was the joker in the car
and now hyper drive handed me age 33.

This is definitely the most imaginative way to show instead of tell . . . that old familiar refrain about how quickly the years go by . . . so relatable & yet more like dancing across a spray of stars, you create such a fanciful journey in shorthand. Ah yes, you conjure up our own inklings about what we were doing at that age. I rode my bicycle across the USA at age 32, so I was pretty full of myself back then, too! *wink! wink!* Fondly, Margie

Hi Alfred; Two stanzas filled with quite an overload of descriptive energy. Third line of stanza two is way too long.

reminds me of hopscotch in NY...trying to land in between the lines...and those fast cars in the city...

imagination was a beautiful thing for kids...i let mine run wild...and glad i did...now life is too real.
