old gal

old gal

A Poem by Alfred Kukitz
"

for debbie

"

Old Gal

sheets of music lay in the old gal’s mind
she sings a life divine and within the trees vine
i often loved her for simple deeds done
making my mind tickle when the old gal was done

i came to see her to help her along
the man she loved was completely gone
and i at times would surely take his place
if only the power laid in my grace

thus we smiled in our joys
and hallowed in Ken’s flight of face
i could cry for an angel to see my buddy’s smile
and hug him as though he were live

the old gal and i meandered along
her joy contagious like singing a song
i wanted to love her like a man of real worth
but i always remembered ken’s in first place

thanks margie!

ken, deb’s hubby, and i bonded because of our vietnam experience in 1973. i couldn’t tell you how many trips he and i made after he moved north. i lived up there 3 years too. the trip to see his wife and another coming next month was like seeing ken as women. this poem is for her birthday 2 july which is the day i went into the army.

regards,

This is a brilliant piece of storytelling, so honest & compelling with a spattering of solid rhymes here there. I tend to see this as a true story becuz it feels so authentic with realistic details we’ve all been touched by in one way or another. The best part are the push & pull sensations of wanting, but deciding not to go there. Some of the most delightful romantic friendships happen similar to this (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

A kind of forbidden love I guess out of respect and admiration to a gone friend. Hard to take place of others and feel comfortable doing that.
I love the way you narrated this and the rhyming.
