INSTRUCTIONS JUST ADD WATER

INSTRUCTIONS JUST ADD WATER

A Poem by andrew mitchell

A seed, one word
Enters via a breeze
Only to settle
On my mind.

To be born
I water this thought , this word.
Its shell divides,
Splits and sprouts
And settles attached
On the walls of my mind.

Water I do
I feel its growth
I feed its need.
The lines appear
Taking shape and moves
Developing I feel it.

A verse, a poem
Born now, I see
Images that flow;
They appear controlled.
To be splashed on paper
Ready to view.

Leaving me now
Like a bird leaving the nest;
A wave of thanks and goodbye.

Hi Andrew. I so luuuv this. That's all we often get to start with, just that little seed of thought and if we don't nurture it, it is gone, just like a wispy cloud that is there but has no real substance. I love how you portray the process, so smooth from start to finish. This is another good flowing poem filled with reality!! alf

Isn't that the way with writing. I have many thoughts jotted that are parts of a write, but the rest blew out the door. When they grow to completion is good. Valentine

Love the metaphor you carry through this wonderful description of the conception and birthing of a poem. Like our children, all we can do is nurture it and push it into the world.

A good metaphor for the inspiration and thought processes of the writer. And like a garden often our efforts come to naught as that seed falls upon stony ground lol!
