Wood you like to see!

Wood you like to see!

A Poem by andrew mitchell

With a weathered piece of wood
I take to, with my plane.
Each layer removed;
One ring, one year;
One chapter revealed
Of a life concealed.
Stripping the layers
Years peel, curl,
And fall.......
To the ground;
A tree's life unfolds.
With rot, a stress
Endured with time.
A gnarl, a knot
From seasons so cruel
A message carved in wood
Reading: "I love you"
Of an old love.
No longer in view.
Each grain of wood
Rings of time
They started boldly
Slowed with time.
I shave the layers
A testament to time
Each layer a story
A fight to the end.
One sees
One cries
One feels
When the tree died.
The core,
The birth.
The very end.

Hi Andrew. Ah! I can almost see that moonlight rising and taking you into those places in your mind that only a moon can lead you to. Those pills are working, my friend!! Loved the analogy of tree and life, or the life of a tree, or the tree of life!!! This is another of those deeply introspective moments that create those little gems I adore!!! alf

Thank you Perkele.7885 for dropping by. Nice to meet you too.
Such a beautiful write about life, Andrew and what better way to describe it than that of planing a tree to revel the rings until you reach it's core.

Andrew. I love this! It's not only a paean to the beauty and longevity of trees, (without which this world would be a much poorer place,) it's also a grand metaphor to life itself.

So very much enjoyed. Beccy.

WOW!!!!!!! Such endearing sentiment! I absolutely loved the concept of the rings of the tree and shaving them off to reveal what is closer to the core. I know that when cut the right angle, there are stunning images that come out of the wood, just like your heart!!
