this is soo true...it says so much so simply. I love that when you don't waste words. It seems everyone has its use here. I've needed that lifeline a time or two myself...but end up treading my own behind to shore. lol Incredibly heartfelt.

this reminds me of several relationships i have had...someone comes along who seems to need saving...throw them my heart to hang on to....and then get pulled under by the wait...eventually we surface, she feels strong enough to swim on her own, and then, Goodbye.

A man who lived near me drowned for real when he tried to rescue his only friend - his golden labrador in a nearby dam. Needless to say the dog survived.
We do need to take care when we set out to 'rescue'. Some are just too much of a risk - however some of us won't be told - I guess blind love is the message here Andrew.
Good writing my friend.

beautiful thread between title to poem ..i really enjoy your style .. minimalism can be such a strength ...
"we were helpless" ...what is one to do against fate eh!dark but not gruesome nor dreary .. a minister once preached to me that if i am standing on a chair is it easier for me to pull someone up on the chair with me...or for them to pull me off .. this reminds me of that a bit :)
