He saw it
" If one does not see, one hears ." says the blind man.
"So what doe a blind man see?" says the boy.
" He sees what he hears!"

And us sighties are just so engrossed in what we see that our usual response to hearing is huh? We only ever hear what is said when it's repeated. We are such strange and complex creatures.
Great short write, packs a punch above it';s weight.
