had to look up Rolf ... too bad he only served half his sentence ..out now i am sure he poses a threat to children ...glad he was stripped of his past awards ...the life of a priest creates the atmosphere that attracts homosexuals and provides a cloak of respectability and authority they are able to abuse .. the cover ups by the Church are tripling those offences making the system as guilty as perps ... well said sir! i had hopes for the Church under Pope Francis ...but when he stepped into politics railing against the US to be more and more socialist ...i quickly added my grain of salt to that opinion .. your message needs telling over and over until real change has a lifetime commitment

and to you sir ...i will lift me morning pint in your behalf! ;)
I can see where you're coming from. Religious societies do seem to protect abusers.
In saying that. Abusers target what they think they can get away with. Pop stars, football trainers, teachers. The list is endless. Organisations like the scouts can't get volunteers anymore. People are scared to be tared with the paedo brush.

saying priests are on their own. This distance is to protect the Vatican's wealth, and to think their wealth could eradicate all forms of world's poverty according to those who have done their homework. More abuse cases are coming out, and we have one who is cardinal Pell who is in Rome who is too sick to come home to face charges. He associated with priest paedophiles.
i was an altar boy for several years...our pastor was grumpy and yelled as during mass, but we were lucky...good people, no abuse..
there is abuse everywhere...and there are many good priests...
They should be allowed to marry---so should nuns...might eliminate some of the problem.

what makes me angry is the church is in denial, never happened!
Although I am not a believer and not religious in any way I think I've got to agree with Emma here Andrew.
Loathsome individuals exist everywhere and childrens lives are ruined unfortunately in every sphere of human influence. Its the why that bothers me.

Oh dear, should turn away from this, respect your thoughts and emotions but, must ask some questions first.
Which people crucified Christ? Which fine upstanding Victorian gentry abused their servants, etc? Which people chased their coloured slaves with dogs, then, hung them from trees? In every faith, in every field of life, there are and have been the most evil and obnoxious people. Surely...
I understand what you've written so eloquently and agree with much of what you've laid But, have also known priests who have been saviours in their own right.
