Shadows transported through spells of a kind.

Shadows transported through spells of a kind.

A Poem by andrew mitchell
"

mystical nothings

"
The spell that fell
through the eye of a raven
journeyed through the wishing well
of collected greetings
from wishful thinking
that all would be well
heard through a witch's ear.

In the back of the mind
the door was closed,
the pot on the fire,
the smell of danger,
smoke fills the air
where the window remains open
cast by the belligerent
from shadows living,
the candle still burns.

All the while,
a black cat waits
with eyes of intent,
a mouse scurries
across the floor
only to be picked up
by the owl's hunger.

The witch was found
her spells did drown
right along beside her
where high above
the raven watched
all along their watchtower.

'Shadows transported
through spells of a kind'
andrew mitchell,
I felt a place of mid winter in this one.
I have been waiting for a type of
little chipmunk and where are they?
Missing their presence and antics.
I am seeing the squirrels in their usual place.
I don't like it at all! For me the squirrels
seem evil. Have they cast a spell on my chipmunkers.....hmmm.
Or worse maybe the squirrels invited them for dinner so to say.
Your above poem is wonderfully clever with
lots of fun phrases and such:'
'at the back of the mind
the door was closed
the pot on the fire
the smell of danger
where the window
remains open'
The word I am looking for is nuances to the imagination.
Blessings,
Kathy

dear Andrew... I placed 🥜 peanuts in the shell unsalted under the big leafless tree in our front yard along with a hanging feeder full of sunflower seeds. The squirrels and the Ravens shared the Loot like Pirates... Where are the Cardinals and Bluejays who found our Inn and food when it snowed in January? As a poet II stare out the window in my mind’s eye and wonder why... truly, Pat
