What do you get?

What do you get?

A Poem by andrew mitchell

What do you want?
Flowers!
What do you get?
Insecticides!
What do you get?
A bee just being
wearing a yellow jacket
buzzing in french
" Viva La France!"

What do you want?
Ants to rule the world.
What do you get?
An anteater to eat all the ants!
What do you get?
No uprising!

What do you want?
A new home!
What do you get?
A slug homeless! No!
What do you get?
A snail abandoned!

I'm hungry,
you're hungry,
the world is hungry
on mind's full.

Death surrounds
all life in passing
leaving a monolith
to remember time by.

He wanted nothing,
he got nothing,
the world owes him nothing:
You are born, you die,
you end up with nothing.
He could be anyone!

What happened Mother?
Through the senselessness, and
the meaninglessness of  man's life
travelling the ages of evolution,
one travels the man-made jungle empty.

Andrew,
Interesting write here. Although I found it kinda sad, it does ask an important question: What do we really want? I guess I might have answered this in my poem, "A Fantasy in Black and White." Unfortunately,
it's usually in reverse of what we have. The striving of one's soul, the lack of contentment follows us like a shadow. Well . . . thanks for your poem.
