The fence.

The fence.

A Poem by andrew mitchell

See, hear young man!
Listen to the commands
I give you.

Sit! Sit! Sit!
Stay! Stay! Stay!
Stop! Stop! Stop!
Nice doggie! Nice doggie! Nice doggie!

Run everyone! Run for your lives! Run!

There was just no bond
between a guard dog
and would be intruders
as they found solace
in climbing the fence.

When a fence not only
kept everyone out
but kept the animal within.
There is just no telling
in the twilight zone.

Should I have laughed at the end?! Have had to re.read... think I will again.. one minute, please. Have a feeling this is more a protective stance than not; wanting to be on the right side of the law, being somewhere safe, are of being safe, unafraid, perhaps. 'Run for your lives' Hmmn.. are you warning, or, being warned. No, still not sure. An enigmatic flow of words, placed in a certain way but.. Need stop, am putting rubbish in response to some finely put words. Forgive, please.

Interesting piece. I always like how you come around corners in your writing Andrew. As our American friends say from out of left field. This is not exception. And perhaps I'm seeing other parallels as well. Not to keep others out but to keep someone in?

Ahhh, I hear the beginning ominous intro to the Twilight Zone here....Rod Serling’s inimitable voice that always sent me running to my bed and hiding as a child. You write a piquant paradox here dear Andrew- do I see a parallel to the infamous “Wall” or fence of shame so prominent in the news now?? Maybe I’m reading into your intriguing words, so please forgive me. But I will vote for a fence that keeps a certain pompous, devious animal inside...I think Rod Serling would too! Love your clever ess and your words!

You are very welcome!
Rod Serling would smile at this...I would say more, but I have to RUN!
