In the forest deep, a tree lies.

In the forest deep, a tree lies.

A Poem by andrew mitchell

The lumberjack wandered
deep into the heart
of the forest.
The trees whispered
through the rustling
of their leaves;
there was no wind.

Here he comes!
Who will it be?
said together Oak, Maple, Ficus, Birch, Gum and Pine.
It’s Pine! they shouted.

In anger Gum dropped a branch
killing the man who held the axe.
With the Evergreens looking on
the deciduous clan covered the evidence,
they mourned for Pine
who was felled in the forest,
and no one found the lumberjack.

I mourn for the fallen pine... knots and all. The Birch will hold the sighs and
secrets... for when Judgement day comes... the Oak and Maple will be quiet
as Angels in prayer. Amen
